OBIT

GOODWIN - Harold George (Hal) MSW
Passed away peacefully at Vancouver General Hospital on January 4, 2005
after suffering a stroke in early December. Hal was born April 14, 1926 in
North Sydney, Nova Scotia. He graduated from Mt. Allison University in New
Brunswick and upon graduation worked for Proctor and Gamble in Nova Scotia
and Prince Edward Island. In 1957, Hal moved from the east to continue his
studies and look for family housing in Vancouver. His wife Marge, her
parents and his two young sons
Marc and David followed shortly. His third son John was born in Vancouver.
Hal obtained his Master of Social Work at the University of British Columbia
and later joined the Faculty. Hal carried out several major responsibilities
in the succeeding years at UBC but his central role as Field Work
Coordinator was the important focus of his life service to social work. He
worked at UBC up until his retirement at age 65 in 1991. Following
retirement he continued to assist in research and fund-raising. In later
years he worked actively with McLaren House and his Strata Council. Hal will
be deeply missed by all who knew him, including his dear friend Michael
Davis, his former wife, Marge Hueller, Lorraine Lefebvre and many others. He
is survived by his three sons, Marc (Corinne), David, John (Debbie) and
eight grandchildren, Jessica, Kym, David, Laura, Chris, Alex, Nicky and
Matthew. Bring your memories to a Celebration of Hal's Life at the Sage
Bistro (formerly the UBC Faculty Club), UBC University Centre Street,
Vancouver, BC V6B 5R1 (Tel. 604-669-4090)
