on January 24, by the Nova Scotia Power Corporation in honor of Otis
RUSSELL.
Died - Mrs. Mary E. "Gram" (Merry) BAKER, Pugwash, the oldest citizen of
the village at the age of 109, January 18.
Died - Mrs. Norman R. (Thelma V. MOORE) THOMPSON, 57, Oxford, January 25.
Died - Mrs. Ida (FERDINAND) JOBB, 73, Westchester, January 14.
Died - Mrs. George (Carrie GREENO) EVERETT, 63, as a result of a hit and
run accident in Amherst, January 23, formerly of West Linden.

Mr. and Mrs. T.G. ROGERS arrived in Halifax on the S.S. Saxonia from
England and are taking up residence on Edgar LAMMING's farm at West
Pugwash. Mrs. Rogers is the only daughter of Mr. Lamming's youngest sister.
Died - James William WAUGH, 80, Wallace, January 15.
Died - Alex (Sandy) KING, 85, Oxford, former Oxford postmaster and
lumber surveyor, January 22.

Thursday, January 25, 1945.
Mr. J.E. HILLS' Wholesale was broken into on January 28. About $100
worth of merchandise was stolen in the robbery.
The Parish of Pugwash-Wallace held its annual meeting at St. George's
Church, Pugwash, on January 15. Rev. C.R. ELLIOTT is the priest in
charge of this district.
At an enthusiastic meeting held at the town hall on January 19, with a
large representation of all organizations in the town on hand, a
Community Committee was formed. Deputy Mayor F.W. SMITH was elected
president. Other officers are H.W. CHASE and town clerk J.I. THOMPSON.
Struck by a skip when working in the salt mine at Malagash on January
21, Fred PATRIQUIN, a well-known miner of that district, was almost
instantly killed. This is the first fatality in the mine since it
started operations in 1918.
Died - Mrs. Hance J. HUNTER, daughter of the late Wm. W. and Julia Davis
BLACK, Springhill, January 4.

Councillors R.E. DONCASTER and W.D. THOMPSON have been re-elected for
another term, while Ira H. RHINDRESS succeeds J.E. MCLEAN who has moved
to Harvey Station, N.B. Mayor MACDOUGALL's term does not expire until
next year.
In a list of expenses we note where 71 lbs. of beef sold at seven cents
a pound and pork at 14 cents a pound.
