Good morning Sherry
As you now know Goose River is now Linden which for me is hop skip and a
jump from my home and my heritage. My father grew up in Linden and his
mothers family (Mills) was from Linden and many of my decendants are in
their final resting place there.
First of all, of course you should be excited beyond the beyond to be
visisting Cumberland County. Now with only a small smidgen of bias and, let
it be said that the Economy area is a truly wonderful area, you will
however note that Lower Shinimicas is in fact the center of the universe (he
said humbly). Granted the facilities is our fair hamlet are scarce (perhaps
non existent would be more to the point) but we do have the distinction of
being the Cultural and Educational Center of Norther Nova Scotia (ahem). If
ya make it here you will be more edumacated and we will give ya all the
culture you can stand!
A previous suggestion of lodging in Amherst or at the Inn in Amherst Shore
is certainly a tad closer to your points of interest but here again Economy
is a wonderful area to visit with a trip to the Advocate shore area a
absolute must.
You may even find accomodation in the Pugwash area, perhaps a bed and
breakfast or some such thing as Pugwash is also a area worthy of your
attention.
In fact Sherry, Cumberland County is one of the worlds great unknown
vacationlands. (well night life may be not quite what it is in
Halifax/Denver and the amusement parks and such might seem a tad scarce. We
have museums and beaches and woodlands and meadows and horses and cows with
the obligatory manure piles and few traffic jams, like, almost none, well
last summer we had a backup of several tractors on the Shinimicas Road when
a haywagon blew a tire but that is rare and was resolved peacefully)
Linden is a community of beautiful rolling farmlands and the name Wood has
had a long time association with this area. I do not have info on your
family line in my data base but will now attempt to do a little more
research on the Linden area Wood family and if you have any info further
back on your great grandfather it may connect to something in my info.
Ahh July in Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, there is no place like it and I
expect to be there too. My bags are packed.

P.S. Sherry if you find yourself on the Lower Shinimicas Road and happen to
notice a short somewhat rotund guy being pulled around his garden by a
orange Husquarvarna tiller, nattily attired in filthy work outdoors type
clothes with just the most prolific of vegetable gardens to be seen by human
eyes, a veritable sight for sore eyes. That would be me. You may find the
odd flower or two around the old place too if ya like that kind of thing. My
wife and I dable in the horticultural arts in a small way.
have a great day all.
