County Councillor Ira DRYSDALE, a Wallace businessman, was elected to
take over the resigning Gardner HURLEY as Warden of Cumberland County at
the January 2 session of council.

Sam MACDONALD, a 25-year veteran and son of retiring chief, Leo
MACDONALD, has been appointed the town's police chief.

Died - William LeRoy (Roy) JOHNSON, 85, Oxford, January 5.
Died - Norman Miller LOWTHER, 73, East Leicester, January 6.
Died - James Leslie CASSIDY, 63, Oxford, January 4.
Died - Ruth Elizabeth (MITCHELL) MILLER, 87, Pugwash, January 8.

Thursday, January 6, 1955.

Percy Snow STONE, 64, a native of Oxford Jct., and for many years
section foreman at Westchester Station, died on January 4 when struck by
a car in front of his home on Oxford Jct. Road.

Victor MARCHANT was installed as president of the Oxford Kiwanis Club on
January 3. He succeeds Claude E. THOMPSON.

Burton BOWSER has started lumber operations on the James CHISHOLM
property at Port Philip.

Died - Weldon E. JAMIESON, 80, for many years proprietor of Harbor View
Hotel, Wallace.

Thursday, January 4, 1945.

Lawrence CHAPPELL of Tidnish died instantly when a bullet from his rifle
penetrated his head. He was hunting rabbits.

A terrific wind and rain storm on January 2 caused serious damage. The
large barn of Laurie HENLEY, Kolbec, was blown down and the roof off the
canteen at John HENLEY's, also of Kolbec. Windows were broken at Mt.
Pleasant.

A Ladies' Curling Club was organized at Oxford on December 30 with Mrs.
Gerald MAYNE as president and Mrs. Victor MARCHANT, sect'y.-treas.

Major Rose Lillian KING, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George L. KING, River
Philip, was honored by King George VI by being made a member of the
Royal Red Cross.

Thursday, January 10, 1935.

Thomas H. KING, son of Mr. and Mrs. George L. KING, River Philip, was
elected mayor of Moncton on January 1.

Born in Swan River, Manitoba, daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth
(MACDOWELL) RHUDE. Daughter - Doreen Theressa. Predeceased by siblings
- Myrtle, Annabelle, Katherine, William.

MACINTOSH, Graham Craig, 73, Victoria, B.C., December 29, 2004. Born in
Tatamagouche, son of Earle and Marguerite MACINTOSH. Wife - Marge.
Children - Sherry, and predeceased by daughter, Dianne. Siblings -
Ruby, Margaret, Emily, Dave, and predeceased by Edwin and Mazie.

BROGAN, Jean Rosamond, Claresholm, Alberta, January 6, 2005. Born on
August 14, 1927 in Boston, Mass, the eldest daughter of Mitchell and
Edith (FOUNTAIN) THOMPSON. Husband - married on September 4, 1948 in
Cambridge to late Leo, who died in 2000. Children - Kenneth, Mitchell,
Lindsay, and predeceased by Tommy in 1974. Siblings - Elizabeth, Harry,
and Walter. Grow up in Wallace Bridge, then move to Massachusetts, then
California, before moving back to Nova Scotia in 1959.

ALLEN, Kenneth Ross Patrick, 85, Pugwash, January 4, 2005. Born in Port
Greville, son of Earl and Maude (PARKET) ALLEN. Wife - late Eva.
Children - Susan, Patricia, Peggy, and daughter A.D., and predeceased by
son Charles. Siblings - Clayton, Havlock, and predeceased by seven
sisters and five brothers. (Names not given.)

MCLEOD, Mildred Arlene, 95, Pugwash, formerly of Springhill, Friday,
January 7, 2005. Born in Chignecto, daughter of William and Carrie
(HANNAH) CLARKE. Husband - late Murray. Children - Joyce, Lois, and
Marilyn. Siblings - Denny, Hattie, Muriel, and predeceased by Helen,
Grace, Lester, Elton and Kenneth.
