COATES, Clifford Edward - 82, Bedford, passed away January 11, 2005, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Moncton, N.B., he was a son of the late Edward and Bessie (Lewis) Coates. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth (Warren); daughters, Brenda (Alan) Reynolds, Vancouver, B.C.; Cheryl (Terry) Heffler, Fall River; Barbara (Jim) O'Donnell, Enfield; son, Rick (Wilma), St. Stephen, N.B.; grandchildren, Peter, Patrick, James, Diana, Michael, Scott, Patricia, Emily, Eric, as well as 11 great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by brothers, George, Allison; sister, Margaret Gould. Clifford served overseas as a lieutenant in the North Shore Regiment during the Second World War. He was Unit Manager with Swift Canadian Company in both Sydney and Halifax, retiring after 44 years. He was a long-time member of Bedford Lions Club and for a number of years, he was a coach with the Bedford Minor Softball Association. He served as an elder for Bedford United Church. During his retirement, his hobby of woodworking brought much enjoyment to him. His family and friends received pleasure from the special projects made for them. He will be greatly missed by all who new him. The family would like to give thanks to Dr. David MacNeil for his years of special attention and support. They would also like to thank Sandra (VON) for her care and kindness. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 14, in Bedford United Church. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will be held at a later date in Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund of Bedford United Church. Arrangements entrusted to T.K. Barnard Funeral Home, 1216 Bedford Highway, Bedford.
