OBIT - A. Vira [HIGGINS] DONCASTER , 1979
SPRINGHILL - Mrs. J. Leslie DONCASTER, 90, Springhill, formerly of Amherst,
died Monday in Lockhart's Nursing Home, Amherst. Born in Wentworth, she was
the former A. Vira HIGGINS, a daughter of the late Ernest and Nellie
(MILLER) HIGGINS. She was a member of the Amherst First Baptist Church. In
her younger years she moved with her parents to Washington, where she
received her education. She came to Amherst in the early 1900s and was
employed by the Amherst Daily News and Black's Printing Company until her
marriage in 1916. She is survived by her husband, Leslie; three daughters,
Mrs. Rosamond CALDER and June (Mrs. William JACKSON), both of Springhill,
and Betty (Mrs. Lorne DERNIER), Fort Lawrence, N.S.; two sons, Gordon and
Allan, both of Amherst, and a sister Jean of Joggins, 11 grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Ona
Grace. The body is at Furlong's Funeral Home in Amherst where funeral
service will be held Thursday at 3:30 p.m., Rev. Dr. R.S. Dunn officiating.

Audrey M. HIGGINS, 2001
Audrey M. HIGGINS, - 70, (b. ca 1931) of Wentworth, Cumberland County, died
Wednesday, February 28, 2001, in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital,
Tatamagouche. Born in Truro, she was the daughter of the late Aubrey and
Margaret [JOHNSON] HIGGINS. She worked for Fairy Aviation and C F B
Shearwater, Dartmouth, retiring to Wentworth in 1987. She was a member of
the Wentworth United Baptist Church, United Baptist Women's Missionary
Society, Wentworth Senior's Group. A very community minded person she
enjoyed assisting in several organizations. Surviving are sisters, Patricia
HIGGINS, Scarborough, Ontario and Kathleen [HIGGINS] WALLS, Portland,
Oregon, U.S.; nieces, Margaret, Coos Bay, Oregon; Patricia, Los Angeles,
Calf.; nephew, Higgins ELLIOTT and wife Jane; grandnephews, Jim and Andrew
ELLIOTT, all of Regina, Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by sisters, Daisy
ELLIOTT, infant sisters, Jean and Beverly. Visitation will be Saturday,
March 3, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in MacDiarmid's Funeral Home, 14067 Highway 4,
Wentworth. Funeral service will be Sunday 4 p.m. in Wentworth United Baptist
Church with Pastor Richard Hovey officiating. Burial will be in Wentworth
United Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date. Donations may be made to
Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or any charity.
