LEGACY, R.E. (M.D.) - 63, Bras d'Or, passed away peacefully January 9, 2005, in Cape Breton Regional Health Care Complex, surrounded by his loving family. Originally from Amherst, Ron was a son of the late Edward and Ethel (Beaton) Legacy. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 33 years, Elizabeth (Young) Legacy. He will be greatly missed by his children, Barbara (Ben) Porter, Rankin Inlet; Ronald Jr., Toronto; Michael, Edmonton; Charlotte, Bras d'Or; Beth (Shawn), Vancouver; Stephen, Halifax; Laurette (Brian), Guelph; grandson, Alexander Porter, who brought many smiles and much joy to his life. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Clement, Kamloops, B.C.; special friend, Sister George Marie MacPherson, Sydney; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Peter; sister, Sandra M. Richard. Dr. Legacy graduated from St. Francis Xavier University and Dalhousie Medical School. He practiced medicine in Sydney Mines before opening his practice in Little Bras d'Or in 1979. He also practiced anaesthesiology for 20 years at Northside General Hospital. Ron will be fondly remembered for his caring demeanor and the loving relationships he formed with his patients and friends. Among his numerous hobbies, Ron enjoyed curling, collecting stamps and was an avid bridge player. Along with his many accomplishments, Ron was a past president of Cape Breton Curling Club and was a member of numerous hospital committees including medical advisory committee, utilization extended care, patient care, and family practice. Ron was was a caring and gentle man who will be greatly missed by his friends, colleagues and family. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 12, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral will be held in St. Joseph's Parish, Bras d'Or on Thursday, January 13, at 10:30 a.m. Cremation will follow at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or St. Joseph's Parish in memory of Dr. R.E. Legacy. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family at:
