Dean L Smith 1931 - 2005 LOWER COVERDALE, NB - Dean Smith, 73, of Lower Coverdale, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2005, at The Moncton Hospital following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Linden, NS on March 18, 1931, he was the son of the late James and Sarah (Burns) Smith. Dean retired as a Deputy Sheriff/Coroner with the Province of New Brunswick following 15 years of service. He was the proprietor of Dean's Variety Ltd, Riverview, a member of the Canadian & U.S. Trotting Association, a former Captain of the Riverview Fire Department, a past member of the Moncton Curling Club, a former National Director of the Kinsmen Club of Canada, a former director of Playtime Projects-Centennial Park, a life member of the Air Force Vets Club Moncton and a member of St. Paul's United Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lillian (Atkinson); sons, Greg (Cecile), of Upper Coverdale, and Jeff (Virginia) of Stony Plain, AB; a sister, Patricia Gunn (Allan) of Ancaster, ON; a brother, Ronald (Doris) of Linden, NS; three grandchildren, Arick, Mark, and Adam; as well as several nieces and nephews. With respect to Dean's wishes, there will be no visitation prior to the memorial service, to be held from St. Paul's United Church, 404 Cleveland Avenue, Riverview, on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 2:00 pm. A reception for Dean's family and friends will follow in the church hall. Interment in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to The Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation or a memorial of the donors choice. Thanks to the Dr's and nursing staff of The Moncton and Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospitals, with special thanks to Dr. Y. Colas and the Nursing staff of the Palliative Care Unit of The Moncton Hospital for their kindness and care during this difficult time.
