OBITUARY

ACKER, George (Chauder) - 75, 8 Bluewater Dr., Glace Bay, died Thursday
in the Glace Bay Community Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of
the late George and Jenny (Bennett) Acker. He was a veteran of the RCCS
and a former president of the Amputee Association. He was a member of
Branch 3, Royal Canadian Legion, Glace Bay. He was a member of the
Miners Museum Association, Glace Bay. He was a retired miner. He was a
member of St. Leo's Church, Glace Bay. He is survived by his wife, the
former Nellie Burns; a son, William George, Sutton, Ont.; three
daughters, Etta (Mrs. John Chalmers), Hamilton, Ont.; Margaret (Mrs.
Walter Blanchard), Ajax, Ont.; Betty (Mrs. Keith Campbell), Glace Bay;
two sisters, Alice (Mrs. John Locke), Mary (Mrs. Francis MacDonald),
both of Glace Bay; two brothers, Thomas, Johnny, both of Glace Bay; nine
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. The body will be in the V.J.
McGillivray Funeral Home, visiting after 7 p.m. Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Saturday. Funeral will be held Sunday, St. Leo's Church, with the time
to be announced. Burial in St. Anne's Cemetery. Donations may be made
to the Diabetic Association or any charity.
